My diary, essentially, where I share my day to day life when I feel the need to express myself

Sunday at the Bond

Surprisingly, today I woke up fairly well, no back pain, I feel rather refreshed and I even had more sleep than usual! I woke up at 9 AM with the sun peeking through the window to my left. I stayed in bed for a few minutes, I really did not want to get up, I felt so comfortable…

I then, sat up to look outside, I could see the forest, the blue sky and leaves on the trees were dancing, as a fresh breeze caressed them. I couldn’t stay in bed for long, so I got up after a good stretch. I took the time to fill up with a bit more than the usual breakfast I have and started zapping through channels. The remotes they make are advertised to be custom made for Giants but I feel like it’s still too small for my hands, I keep pressing more than one button on it. It’s like that for most things, except when they need to be made to size, like clothing, most utensils are slightly smaller than we want them to. I’m used to it, but it still stands out to me…

I get a phone call, at around 10:30 AM, it was Sequoia, one of my neighbors’ daughters who got engaged with a human a few years ago, she’s 28 and stands at 15’8 ft tall, dark brown hair and a very strong presence, which has even more impact through her piercing blue eyes. I’m fond of her, we grew up together, but she got into trouble with her family and all the Giants in the group for choosing to follow her feelings for a human. I’m not entirely sure what’s so wrong about it, except maybe that we can’t have children with a human, other than that, it seems like it’s just blind hate. However, this made her bitter towards other Giants and I tend to get some backlash if I say anything wrong to her.

So I was quite surprised when she called me to invite me to hang out at The Bond, with some friends. I accepted, I needed company today, and I had nothing against her, I actually admire her a lot for following her dreams! We talked for a bit, it was good to catch up on all the new things in her life, as well as sharing a bit about my new home.

We were supposed to have lunch together, so I put on my new outfit and headed to town, making sure to call my mother to tell her I wouldn’t be selling today as I was catching up with friends I hadn’t talked to in a long time. Mom was skeptical and didn’t really sound happy about the idea but she let me go. It’s not that I need authorization from her, it’s just that I need to still be a responsible woman and do my job.

I arrived at The Bond at around noon and had been talking to various people around town on my way. It was clearly quiet today, many humans prefer to spend time at home with their families and the streets were, as a result, clear enough for me to use the sidewalk. I waited at the entrance a bit, after checking the back of the pub. After a few minutes, an old human on his way to the pub started chatting with me, he was already pretty knocked over the fence, but he kept me company for a bit. I don’t understand how some people can drink so much in the morning…

At half-past noon, Sequoia, her boyfriend, and 2 other human friends of hers arrived. She was the first I saw, as expected and we waved at each other from a distance. Once they got close, Sequoia throws me a big hug, I barely had time to respond. I was happy to see her but I’m not used to being greeted by her that way. She presented to me her boyfriend, a good looking man with a bit too much confidence, he extended his hand out, to which I gave my index finger to shake. Jeremiah was his name, blond and quite tall for a human, wearing a button shirt. Sarah and Nate were the names of the two other human friends, with them. I know Nate, I usually see him around town when I go to sell at the park.

Sequoia and I went around the back and the three of them went through the entrance and we met up at our table. There were a lot of people around in at the Bond for lunch, surprisingly! We spent the entire afternoon chatting, I felt full from lunch, I could see Sequoia slowly getting more and more sleepy despite her best efforts to smile. I was too. It was past our mid-day nap and we were starting to feel it. The humans were still full of energy, which fascinated me…

Left to right: Jeremiah, Sarah, Sequoia (Giant), Nate and Aleena

We eventually touched on a subject I hadn’t heard much of before. Jeremiah was going on about them spending a lot of time together and Sequoia brought up that they had planned on participating in the Union Games, which is an event with games that have both humans and Giants play together in fun friendly events for bonding purposes. It’s usually a good event to do with a human friend or loved one. It consists of games where usually the Giant and human work together to score points, such as taking a ball from one side to the other, where the human is waiting to put it in a basket or have the human stand on the Giant’s shoulders as they carry buckets full of water and need to fill up a tank. That actually sounds risky but they have the gear to make sure humans don’t fall off their Giant partners.

I have never participated in an event like this, I never had anyone willing to go with me, and I’m not really the competitive type. I’m sure if I had someone to go with, I’d give it a try, it’s not every day we have events involving Giants and more even focusing on a relationship between us and humans. If I ever go there, I’ll be sure to post about it!

We spoke some more and I found out that Sequoia was starting to develop some bone pressure problems. Her legs were aching slightly the more time passed and she was getting worried about it. In another case of the unfortunate health conditions we all suffer. She’s so young too, It’s really sad to see, and I worry about my own physical condition in a few years. But that’s something I’ll have to fight through when it comes. I’m sure my size won’t let me live my life without something similar happening to my legs, but I’m more worried about my back…

Anyway, we decided to split up at 4 PM. It was very hard for both of us to keep our eyes open at that point. So we traded goodbyes and I went home. I landed in bed right away, I didn’t even take my clothes off. How do humans do it? I can’t understand… I slept 2 hours or so, put on my pajamas, and am now writing this entry for today! I had a lot of fun, today, certainly. I would do it again, but I have to have my nap, I felt like a zombie near the end. I think Nate noticed as he looked at us and found an excuse to go, I don’t really think he wanted to go, but he definitely saw our faces. I’m not sure how to feel about Jeremiah, he’s a good guy but you’d think he’d ask Sequoia if she was alright, at least… I don’t think humans understand us that well.

Either way, that was all, I’m now enjoying my tea to go back to sleep, tomorrow I have to work. I’ll be back tomorrow! If you’re reading this and have any questions about my day or life, feel free to ask in the comments, I’ll be happy to answer and clarify!

Flashy new style

Today, I woke up slightly better, my back doesn’t hurt as much as it did yesterday, but I’m still not used to the new bed. I didn’t do much during the morning but finished organizing the house, the little that I had left to sort is now in the right place.

The morning was nice and I enjoyed it with another mug of coffee and toast as I usually do. I have space outside for a small garden, I should look into planting some flowers one day, but not until my back gets better.

Looking inside the fridge, I noticed it’s mostly empty and I need to go to town to do some groceries. So when 9 am struck, I left the house in one of my dresses and brought some money, did my 40-minute walk to town to take care of things. I love going to town, the road leading to it is always so comfortable to me. Birds singing and often a breeze flows by, which was the case today. I wondered what kind of activity the town has on a Friday, it’s usually busier than usual.

And it was, the town was booming with humans walking about. They come to see their families or use the time to go shopping for the weekend. Since most of the sidewalks were busy, I was forced to use the road, so I squeeze through and stand between two cars. It was slow to get around, but I had no choice. Furthermore, I needed to come back later to meet with Clarissa again to get the rest of my outfit, which was ready to pick up this afternoon.

I should also write about what happened, my ankle is still bruised from the little incident I had! A human in his car decided to leave his parking spot as I was waiting for the green light to turn on. He either didn’t see me or was distracted by something, he backed up too much and quite quickly too, hit my leg and it was painful, the metal thingy felt like I had hit my leg on a rock! He then comes out of his car, waving around saying I should’ve moved away and whatnot, all I said to him was to watch his back because I was already there waiting. He kept blabbering about and I paid him no mind, and if I ever felt guilty for his car being dented, those feelings escaped me completely, no guilt what-so-ever…

This sort of situation happens often, there are still people who don’t like us being around their environment. You see, it wasn’t long since Giants started to be allowed to live among humans, long enough for my grandparents to be able to do it their entire lives but still a few generations off, and it seems like the humans were never truly used to the change, some of them at least. I usually get a very good reception from them, but there’s always the odd one who will find a way to create conflict. I’m not sure what they expect to get here, and I’m truly glad we’re not violent in nature because that, I’m sure, would’ve been enough to make me do something I’d regret. I didn’t feel any anger though, which is good.

Anyway, I eventually arrived at the grocery store, two other Giants were there, the shelves are made with our size in mind, and we get a hefty quantity of food to choose from, a lot of human products too. Most tend to be priced down or have some sort of discount to them, like the milk cartons, which now are two for the price of one, as the advertisement signs would indicate, with lettering that figuratively screams at you from the entire store, almost impossible to ignore.

I got quite a lot of food, basic stuff like bread, milk, some selection of fruit and a few packs of chicken, which I quite like. No vegetables or seasonal fruit as I get those at home from our farm, either my dad or brothers usually bring some in a crate for me. I paid the lot to the human cashier while chatting with my parents’ neighbor, another Giant, who was asking if I was settling fine and how much they miss me around and all that. Don’t worry, miss, I’m fine, I still go help my parents pretty much every day. I guess they just miss having little me around, but we all grow up and it was my time.

Noon came about and I was home thirty minutes past. I decided I wanted to keep it simple and made six chicken and lettuce sandwiches for lunch, it was mostly enough, with bread that was about twice the size of human toast bread. It filled me up enough and I decided to go to sleep afterward.

I woke up at 4 pm, a little bit late to pick up the dress, so I called Clarissa asking if she was available to meet up again, and she was, so we met at the tailor. It was getting dark when we saw each other, but the place was still open. They got my top and it looked just like my friend envisioned! It looked great on me, and I was very happy to finally have something new to wear. Here, I have a picture of the new outfit:

Town Giant Aleena

I’m so happy! Tomorrow, I might put it on and walk around town in style! Maybe I’ll use it while I sell our vegetables… Or maybe I won’t sell while wearing this one, I don’t want to damage it with the dirty barrel basket… Indeed, better not risk it.

Since we were together, Clarissa and I stuck around chatting for a while and she invited me to have dinner with her and another girl from her work, a sort of ladies’ night out but just dinner. I can’t stay up too late, unfortunately. I would say it was supposed to be a ladies’ night but Clarissa brought her husband to the dinner. I didn’t mind at all, he’s a good man, he’s the one who offered to help with tidying the house with Clarissa and I refused, I can’t let humans carry such heavy things… Don’t get me wrong, I just see humans as such delicate creatures, I couldn’t let them at risk of getting hurt. Maybe I’m underestimating their strengths and resistances, I’ve been told before, but what can I say. I had a very unpleasant experience with humans before, it got etched into my brain that humans are frail and delicate. I might tell what happened someday, it’s not an easy story to tell.

Dinner went well, we went to the Bond again, the only good place where Giants and humans can get together easily and serves good food at a reasonable price. I mostly stood there listening, as they talked about their day and I had no idea what most of it meant. As I’m not really a social person, I didn’t know what to say. I like to listen to their stories, so I didn’t mind at all!

Once done, we went our ways, I got back home safely, tried on the new outfit, and took a picture to share! I’m so happy about today despite my ankle and back still aching, but I don’t mind at all. I’m having a nice mug of tea to relax and I shall end the day! Lots to tell today, so I hope it wasn’t too long to read.

See you tomorrow!
